Children & Youth
Children and youth are valuable to us at Westfort Baptist Church. Jesus loves them and so do we, and our desire is to see them grow in honouring and serving Him.
Sunday School (every week at 10am) provides a Bible lesson in classes
for girls and boys ages five through to teens.
During the church service, which begins at 11am, everyone joins together in songs
and prayer, then the children meet together for their own time of
snacks, Bible stories and crafts. The youth stay with the adults in the church
service.
Special events during the year include a winter Fun Day, a church
picnic, a week-long summer Vacation Bible Club, and a Christmas program
in which all children can participate. There are summer Bible camp
opportunities also for both children and youth.
Currently, our Senior High Youth meet with the youth group from Murillo Community Church on Friday nights. Once a month, they meet with other youth groups from around Thunder Bay for a joint worship service and bonfire. Additionally, once a month the area youth groups meet up at the Sports Dome for an evening of activities. These two evenings are for youth from age 12 to Grade 12.
We have an active and vibrant Junior youth group with kids from grade 7-9. Weekly functions,, Bible devotions, opportunities to interact with Christian youth from around Thunder Bay in worship and sporting activities all compromise an energetic and spiritually strong youth program. Under the leadership of Mike and Amy Hosegood our junior youth group meets regularly on Friday evenings.
We are developing dedicated web pages for both children and youth. These will include age-appropriate devotionals and activities to spur young people on in the faith. On these web pages, we will provide material to assist parents in understanding the lingo and culture that our children face each day. Our goal is to equip young people spiritually, and to give youth and their families practical tools to meet the challenges of today's world. Keep your eyes open for these additions.
In the meantime, all the children and youth at Westfort Baptist are lovingly and individually cared for. We are a church family that places more value on relationship than on programming. We at Westfort believe that children have a special place in God's heart, and our aim is to show them who He is so that they will learn to seek Him first in their lives.
